Keynote title: Medical IT- the Next Megatrend?

ABSTRACT Fitness tracking has developed from a popular research topic into both a worldwide wave of eHealth and a commercial success. However, Information Technology can do a lot more in Medicine but it faces some substantial challenges to be met first, including technical feasibility, usability and, last but not least, ethical and political acceptance. Focusing on the technical challenges and in particular on application-aware system architectures I will report in this presentation on some cutting edge Medical IT projects that I have been personally involved in.

SPEAKER BIO Prof. Jurg Gutknecht's professional career in Computing started in 1968 in industry, when he joined the real-time system programming group at Swissair. From 1970 to 1974 he studied Mathematics at the ETH Zurich and simultaneously worked at IBM as a student employee. In 1978 he received his doctorate with a dissertation in Mathematics. After a three year period as a professor of Mathematics at a local college, Jurg Gutknecht joined Niklaus Wirth's Lilith/ Modula research team in 1981. In 1985, after a sabbatical stay at the Xerox-PARC Research Laboratory in California, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the ETH and later full professor. From 1991 - 1994 Prof. Gutknecht was dean of the Computer science department and from 2006 - 2010 chairman of the same department. Together with Wirth, Prof. Gutknecht developed Modula-2 system software and created the Oberon programming language and system, as well as several evolutions including Active Oberon, Zonnon, and Active Cells. Jurg Gutknecht's interests and focus of research are in the area of programming languages, compilers and runtime platforms, with an emphasis on lean systems development. Jurg Gutknecht was involved in several projects in this area, among them the "Supercomputer in the Pocket", a many core hardware/ software codesign project in the context of an Innovation Cluster in Embedded Systems funded by Microsoft. Since 2014 Prof. Gutknecht is President of the Swiss Informatics Society.

Keynote title: Market-Oriented Clouds and Big Data Applications

ABSTRACT Computing is being transformed to a model consisting of services that are commoditised and delivered in a manner similar to utilities such as water, electricity, gas, and telephony. In such a model, users access services based on their requirements without regard to where the services are hosted. Several computing paradigms have promised to deliver this utility computing vision. Cloud computing has emerged as one of the buzzwords in the IT industry and turned the vision of "computing utilities" into a reality. Several IT vendors have started offering computation, storage, and application hosting services, and provide coverage in several continents, supporting Service-Level Agreements (SLA) backed performance and uptime promises for their services. Clouds deliver infrastructure, platform, and software (application) as services, which are made available as subscription-based services in a pay-as-you-go model to consumers. The price that Cloud Service Providers charge can vary with time and the quality of service (QoS) expectations of consumers. This seminar/keynote presentation will cover (a) 21st century vision of computing and identifies various IT paradigms promising to deliver the vision of computing utilities; (b) opportunities and challenges for utility and market-oriented Cloud computing, (c) innovative architecture for creating market-oriented and elastic Clouds by harnessing virtualisation technologies; (d) Aneka, a Cloud Application Platform, for rapid development of Cloud/Big Data applications and their deployment on private/public Clouds with resource provisioning driven by SLAs; (e) experimental results on deploying Cloud and Big Data applications in engineering, gaming, and health care domains (integrating sensors networks, mobile devices), ISRO satellite image processing on elastic Clouds, and (f) directions for delivering our 21st century vision along with pathways for future research.

Keynote title: Exploiting Nature Inspired Algorithms for Combinatorial Interaction Testing

ABSTRACT Our continuous dependencies on software often raise dependability issue. In the last 20 years, software has grown tremendously in terms of size (i.e. line of codes (LOCs), and functionalities). With the increase in LOCs and functionalities, more and more unwanted interactions amongst software systems, hardware components, and operating systems are to be expected, rendering increased possibility of faults. While traditional static and dynamic testing strategies (e.g. boundary value analysis, cause and effect analysis and equivalent partitioning) are useful for fault detection and prevention, they may not be sufficient to tackle bugs due to interaction.

Addressing this issue, researchers are now focusing on a sampling method based on the applications of covering arrays, termed Combinatorial Interaction Testing (CIT). Here, interaction based t-way strategies (where t indicates the interaction strength) are developed as a result. Much useful progress has been achieved as plethora of t-way strategies have been developed in the literature in the last 30 years. Recently, in line with the upcoming field called Search based Software Engineering (SBSE), many newly strategies have been developed adopting specific nature inspired algorithm (including Genetic Algorithm (GA), Ant Colony (AC), Simulated Annealing (SA), Particle Swarm Optimization, and Harmony Search Algorithm (HS)) as their basis in an effort to generate the most optimal solution. This talk highlights the current progress in the area particularly in terms of application of hybrid nature inspired algorithms, parameter free algorithms as well as hyper heuristic based solution.
